Editor's view: Prepare for an action-packed day on 16 May

With spring in the air, we are looking forward to Nursery World's series of events this year, including the new Big Day Out

At last! Bunches of daffodils are available to buy in the local shops – a sure sign that we are moving out of winter and into spring.

And this means we are now into the third issue of our 100th anniversary year, with our exciting live events fast approaching.

On 5 March, our annual Business Summit is taking place in London and I'm delighted that MP Maya Ellis, chair of the new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Babies, will be providing the keynote. I'm expecting her views on funding, and expansion – and how that expansion can support all families – to be a breath of fresh air. With business in mind, check out our annual Chains supplement, free with this issue. In it you'll find our exclusive ranking of the biggest groups by Ofsted grading

Following hot on the Summit's heels is our brand new event, Nursery World's Big Day Out, on 16 May.

Without our extensive advisory board representing all aspects of the sector, it would not have been possible to put together such a diverse and essential programme of presentations, debates and workshops. There will be more than 100 speakers across six live stages, creating a dynamic, action-packed atmosphere under the roof of Islington's Business Design Centre.

This event marks a new chapter in Nursery World's continuing role to support its readers. Live events are fantastic for gaining knowledge and for forging emotional connections. Just as the annual Nursery World Awards are always an experience to remember, I hope that our new Big Day Out will enhance your sense of community and make everyone who attends feel truly valued.

Talking of the annual Awards, these are now open for entries.

Roll on spring!
