Promoting a ‘growth mindset’ can start in the early years, enabling children to develop a positive attitude to learning that can be carried with them throughout their life. The message that we can all achieve, progress and grow, no matter what our starting points are, is very powerful and can build confidence, resilience and mental wellbeing.

GROWING BRAINS

At our nursery, our children are enthusiastic to learn new things and to ‘grow their brain’. This image can be reinforced by a physical example using a puppet and a balloon that we say represents the puppet’s brain. We show it inflating a little when the puppet keeps on trying to learn a skill and then finally can do it!
