- This list includes details of all the private and independent chains of nurseries, kindergartens, playgroups and creches known to Nursery World. Under the term 'chain' we have included groups with only two nurseries up and running if they have specific and imminent plans for expansion, or also offer some other form of childcare provision.
- While we have tried to be comprehensive, we may have omitted some chains not known to us. If your chain is not in our listing, please contact us at nurserychains.nw@haymarket.com and we can include you in the next edition of Nursery Chains, due out in autumn 2012.
- Individual nurseries have not usually been named. Figures after each nursery's location denote the number of places they are registered for. The number of employees includes full-time and part-time staff unless otherwise stated. Nurseries are listed alphabetically by location.
- 'Places' denotes the total number of registered nursery places. This does not include nursery classes in schools, out-of-school care or holiday places, but does include creche provision and places in any nurseries that are owned and managed by each group. We have included plans only where they are specific. The information in each entry reflects the state of play as at the end of October 2011.
