Nursery World Awards 2011: Individuals - Childminder of the year

Careers & Training Provision
WINNER: Lynda Milton, Chippenham, Wiltshire

Described as 'Lovely Lynda' by one parent, Lynda Milton always goes the extra mile to support both the children in her care and their families.

'Not only is she constantly encouraging, supporting and nurturing my children - I genuinely feel that she also offers us the same as parents,' says the mother. 'Lynda is full of love, laughter and life and exudes this to all around her. Whenever I tell people about Lynda and what a ball the children have with her, they are simply blown away and they all wish she could be cloned.'

Lynda has won many awards in recognition of her tireless and ongoing commitment to shaping the lives of children in her care.

One child who was being looked after by her grandmother hugely benefited from Lynda's fun, loving and nurturing environment.

The grandmother says, 'When my granddaughter first came to Lynda she was very unsettled and hard work. But under Lynda's care she blossomed into a very happy and vocal little girl. The support and care from Lynda has been priceless. She is just about the most amazing person I have ever met and her own children must be so proud to have her as a parent. Lynda is not just a childminder, she is family.'

The incredible learning journeys that Lynda crafts, describing the fantastic trips and adventures the children have, are also described in her nomination.

One parent says, 'Our girls' folders are bursting and the diary notes are written with such warmth, humour and love that they bring tears to our eyes. All the children just love looking through their own personal journal, and when they come home it's the highlight of our night too - we pore over them for hours.'
