Regional focus: A changing landscape

North-west England is one of the most diverse regions in the UK, encompassing major cities and remote rural communities, and ranging from wealthy suburbs to rundown estates and from the bustle of regenerated city centres to the splendours of the Lake District.

The North West Regional Development Agency (NWRDA), which works to promote the region, describes it as a 'fast-growing, vibrant region, combining a dynamic business base, cosmopolitan urban centres, breathtaking landscapes and an internationally recognised creative and cultural scene.'

A poll by Ipsos MORI earlier this year rated the region highly as a place to live and found that businesses in the North West felt that over the last two years, the region had improved as a place to do business, compared with the country as a whole.
