It is a big responsibility – educating pre-schoolers in the way we think about our planet’s sustainability. Children this young copy the behaviours of adults in their lives, so it’s important for nurseries to show a united front in promoting a cleaner, greener planet.

DEVELOPING AN OUTDOOR ECOSYSTEM

Jayne Cocksedge is owner and manager of Jayne’s Nursery in Chelmsford, joint runners-up (with Childbase Partnership) of the 2023 Nursery World Eco-Friendly Early Years Award.

‘Over the past few years, Jayne’s Nursery has been promoting sustainability as we wanted to play a part in helping the environment,’ says Jayne. ‘We have gained several awards for our work – OMEP bronze and silver awards; Plastic Free Schools for three years running; and the Green Tree award – bronze to platinum.
