Work matters: Party time at the nursery

Management
Parents will find something extra at a setting that's established itself as a strong local business.

A strong family-friendly vibe has helped the Sunflower Day Nursery to almost triple its business since husband and wife team Steve Morris and Samantha Rose-Morris took it over in 2006. Based in Crediton, Devon, the nursery now accommodates up to 73 children and has a positive image within the town.

'We must be doing something right,' says Steve Morris. 'As parents of young children ourselves, we understand that any help is worth its weight in gold and we aim to be as supportive of families as we can.'

Now this is being taken to the next level with the launch of a number of new services that take the nursery even closer into the heart of local family life.

One of these is a venture called Sunbeam Parties, which organises birthday festivities in the nursery for children up to five years old. There will be a basic charge for the event and then an additional cost per head, depending on what extra resources are needed for the party's theme.

'The whole ethos behind this is to bring more people into the nursery, to retain the parents we have and to show that we really care about these kinds of occasions,' says Mr Morris. 'The parties are as important to us for bringing new children in as they are in their own right, so it makes good business sense, as well as offering a quality service to the parents.'

Sunflower Day Nursery is also about to launch other services including children's haircuts, ironing and even internet shopping.

'It will be interesting to see what take-up we get on the shopping, but it's all part of our mission to save time for families and make us more interesting,' says Mr Morris.

Sunflower Day Nursery's added value benefits for parents include:

- Freedom to spend more time with their children

- Taking the stress out of everyday tasks like ironing

- Providing haircuts to free up more family time at weekends

- Original, fun parties without the hard work of organising them.
