Work matters: Sense of belonging

Management
Expanding its nurseries into other locales means walking the beat for the Westminster Children's Society. Karen Faux hears about it.

The Westminster Children's Society (WCS) is gaining ground. For the first time in its long history it has opened nurseries outside of its central London boundaries, moving into Camden, north London, and Dagenham, Essex. With 15 settings now within its remit, and two more planned for later in the year, these are exciting times for the organisation.

Contracts manager Gary Simpson says WCS has worked hard to build links with local children's centre teams and children's services departments to ensure its provision meets the needs of the local community.

He says, 'We have a passionate chief executive in June O'Sullivan, who works tirelessly to raise awareness of the key issues facing our workforce and families. This has helped to spread the reputation of the organisation and enabled us to build links and partnerships with other boroughs.'
