2002 Age Concern Grandparent of the Year competition

(Photograph) - Seventy-three-year-old Henry Curnow from St Ives in Cornwall beat hundreds of grandparents to become one of nine regional winners in the 2002 Age Concern Grandparent of the Year competition. Henry was nominated by his granddaughters Cally, aged six (right), and Georgina, aged four, whom he looks after outside of school hours. Cally said, 'My granddad is the best ever. He lets us make sponge cakes and he looks after us all the time. In summer we make sandcastles and in winter we draw. He spoils us.' Photograph by Michael Melia
