A childminder's advice to Ofsted

I am writing as a registered childminder in England who is one of the many to have objected earlier this year to Ofsted's proposal to print childminders' reports and full names and addresses on its website. I was horrified to think that any manner of person would so easily be able to discover the exact location of children cared for by childminders in their area. I am sure that the parents of the children we care for would not be happy for this to happen either.

I was horrified to think that any manner of person would so easily be able to discover the exact location of children cared for by childminders in their area. I am sure that the parents of the children we care for would not be happy for this to happen either.

I was pleased, therefore, when Ofsted bowed to pressure and commissioned MORI to send out a questionnaire to all childminders last month that set out three suggested proposals on how our addresses and reports could be printed on its website - full name and address, Unique Reference Number (URN) and part of the postcode, or URN only (News, 11 September). However, I was disappointed to find that space was not made available for childminders to make our own suggestions.
