A choice in the MMR debate

About two-thirds of the families who have completed questionnaires report a family history of allergies such as asthma and hay fever, and/or a family history of immune system problems including diabetes, arthritis, epilepsy and Crohn's disease.

What we suspect, but the health department rejects, is that a child who has inherited a sensitive immune system may not cope as well with a vaccine virus. Thousands of parents have contacted us asking how to obtain the single dose vaccines. At the moment the Medicines Control Agency has overturned the complete ban on single-dose measles and mumps vaccines in situations where a child has already started on a course of single-dose vaccines, and where a child has a special need, such as an allergic reaction, that makes the licensed product unsuitable.
