What will my child be told?

All practitioners are required to give regard to a wide variety of religious traditions and cultural backgrounds. Many nurseries, pre-schools and childminders will celebrate a range of religious festivals and will usually tell children about religious customs. Most will give equal value to a range of religious faiths.

Why is it so important?

Learning about religious ideas or traditions means much more than just finding out about costumes, meals or stories. Religion plays a central part in the lives of billions of people worldwide, and has shaped many of Britain's schools, laws and institutions and even our sporting teams (Everton and Southampton both started as church football teams). Whatever our own views, our society is saturated by religious themes and influences.
