After-school sure start support guide

A new guide for local authorities on implementing the Sure Start Out of School programme (2003-06) has just been published by Kids' Clubs Network for the Sure Start Unit. Local authorities have taken over responsibility for distributing funding for out-of-school provision, now that the 225.5m New Opportunities Fund programme has ended, as part of their remit to develop integrated children's services under the National Childcare Strategy. The Sure Start Out of School programme will provide 8m to create 95,000 new out-of-school places by 2006, 40 per cent of which will be in disadvantaged areas.
