Art is a family enterprise at nursery

Families in Lincolnshire are set to benefit from almost 50,000 in lottery funding for an arts project run by a local social enterprise.

The Children's House Consultancy has been given 46,800 over twoyears to deliver its 'Our House Is Your House' scheme. This consists ofmonthly Saturday workshops at the Children's House Nursery inStallingborough, near Grimsby.

The free, two-hour workshops, for children from four to 11 years old andtheir parents or carers, are taught by professional artists who areconnected to a local charity called ST-ART. They work with textiles,sculpture, printing and photography.

The workshops are intended to provide opportunities for families tospend time together while learning new skills in a relaxedenvironment.

The Children's House Consultancy provides a free creche at the workshopsfor children aged under four who attend with older brothers orsisters.

Nathan Archer, development manager of the Children's House Consultancy,said, 'We have had a fantastic level of interest from local families.More than 100 have expressed interest in attending the sessions, and ithas only been running for four months.'

Director Sylvia Archer added, 'Through hands-on activities in therelaxed environment of a local nursery, families will have the chance tolearn together, meet others and have fun. This scheme also has thepotential to really reduce isolation in local communities. Our priorityis creating a positive environment in which children's self-esteem andconfidence can flourish.'
