Bags of fun for childminders

Childminders across Northern Ireland have been busy creating a range of 'learning bags' for children living in four European countries. The Smiley Faces project, launched by the Northern Ireland Childminding Association with the help of European funding, is aimed at sharing educational resources with Poland, Cyprus, Lithuania and Bulgaria.

The bags incorporate toys, books, stories and games, some of them handcrafted and reflecting the local culture of their makers.

NICMA director Bridget Nodder said, 'Smiley Faces is an active learning project. The childminders have been able to let their imagination direct the creation of the bags. Each will be for a different age of child and will stimulate different aspects of development.'

The project also aims to enhance the skills of childminders by promoting cultural awareness and diversity.
