The health problems children may have in their early years can haunt them for the rest of their lives. Although most people are getting healthier and living longer, some health problems in children are getting worse - and it is not just related to a diet of junk food and a lack of exercise. More and more children have allergies to different foods or trouble breathing due to asthma or having to live with HIV. The term 'allergy' is used to describe a response within the body to a substance which is not necessarily harmful in itself but results in an immune response and a reaction that causes symptoms and disease in a predisposed person, which in turn can cause inconvenience or a great deal of misery.
