Bullying

Bullying is the most common topic for children calling ChildLine Cymru during the Welsh helpline's first ten years. Since the line opened in 1993, 20,322 callers out of more than 150,000 have talked to its counsellors about being bullied. Other common problems have been physical abuse (11 per cent), family tensions (10 per cent), concern for others (9 per cent) and sexual abuse (9 per cent). ChildLine Cymru director Paul Hemming said, 'For some children, ChildLine has literally been a lifeline. It is a fantastic achievement to have helped so many children, many of whom have been in desperate need.' The children's commissioner for Wales, Peter Clarke, was director of the charity from 1995 to 2001.
