Busy Bees buys northern light

Busy Bees, one of the most rapidly-growing nursery groups, has established a firm presence in the north-west with the acquisition of Tibbitots Day Nurseries in Lancashire. The chain has been pursuing a policy of expansion both through acquiring going concerns and by building new units, and recently bought Copperbeech Day Nurseries, a group based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The sale of the Tibbitots nurseries in Formby and Southport was completed last month.

Busy Bees managing director John Woodward said, 'It has the best reputation in the area. All the staff have been taken on and we'll gradually be re-branding the nurseries.'

Busy Bees has operated a nursery in Liverpool for the past five years. In the past six months it has acquired a nursery at St David's, near Chester, and struck a deal to run a new-build nursery for the University of Salford, in addition to buying Tibbitots.
