Cameron hosts first Cabinet meeting of the new Government

Policy & Politics
The Prime Minister is putting the finishing touches to his ministerial team today.

A number of appointments at the Department for Education are yet to be filled, including the early years brief.

David Cameron also hosted the first Cabinet meeting of the new all-Conservative Government.

During the Cabinet meeting, the first part of which was filmed by a BBC television crew, the Prime Minister waved a copy of the manifesto and said that the Conservatives would deliver all their manifesto pledges.

This would include the manifesto pledge to an early years funding review and a doubling of the amount of funded places for three-and four-year-olds to 30 hours a week for working parents.

At the Cabinet meeting the Prime Minister said, ‘In here is the programme we have the mandate to deliver.’

Mr Cameron said, ‘This will be a different government. It is not a coalition Government, so we have proper accountability. There’s no trading away of things that are in here. The ability to deliver this, that is one of the most important things we can do to restore trust and faith in politics, when you vote for something you get it, and that is what we are going to do.’
