Care Commission and Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education

Early years services subject to joint inspection by the Care Commission and Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education are to be inspected through an integrated programme over a three-year period, according to the Care Commission's standards for inspection 2004-05. The joint inspections will look at areas including whether the setting is a safe environment for children, whether its staff are engaging with children, whether it is a well-managed service, and support and development. Childcare agencies will also be scrutinised under the new standards. The Care Commission said the standards, applied from this April, had 'been selected to build upon previous years' inspections and because they meet the priorities of safeguarding the well-being of people who use care services'.
