The joint head of the early years and childcare unit at the Department for Education and Skills is to be the new chief executive of the Equal Opportunities Commission. Upon her appointment Caroline Slocock said, 'I know, both from my professional experience, and from my experience as a mother of two young children, that measures to promote gender equality are critical to the economy, to effective management and to modern family life.' She takes up the post next month.
