Challenging Ofsted

We sympathise with Olive Rack and her colleagues' Ofsted experience (Letters, 1 March). We were similarly disgruntled when an inaccurate report on our childminding business was presented to us. We could have complained about our inspector's arrogant attitude and impoliteness in answering her mobile phone, but thought it more important to analyse the report, point by point, listing the falsehoods and malicious innuendos it contained.

We could have complained about our inspector's arrogant attitude and impoliteness in answering her mobile phone, but thought it more important to analyse the report, point by point, listing the falsehoods and malicious innuendos it contained.

Ofsted seemed bemused by our response and, in the end, actually asked what we wanted done about it. We said that we wanted it withdrawn and, after three months, it was.

Ofsted needs to be challenged in these circumstances. Our experience proves that it is possible for the 'little man or woman' to succeed, although it is more worrying and difficult for childminders working on their own. Our advice is to take Ofsted to task thoroughly, prove their points wrong and ask them to withdraw them.
