Cheap and cheerful

When it comes to transforming their nursery on a budget, the staff at Clutha Street Day Nursery in Glasgow are pros. Manager Heather Gillies shares her top tips Over the years we've found that the simplest and cheapest ideas are often the most effective when it comes to making our nursery a welcoming environment for children, staff and parents.

Harness talent

A nursery's best asset is its staff. If they're valued and feel part of a team there's no limit to their imagination and flair. Give them time to paint the walls if the mood grabs them, or even the ceilings - in the three to fives' room we have a galaxy complete with a spaceman, shooting stars and an alien above our heads!

Also look to your local community for their input. You'll be surprised at the number of willing volunteers ready to get involved. Often helping out can be worked into a project your local secondary school is doing, community involvement for instance. Our local Prince's Trust is also great.
