I am part of a nanny circle and was shocked to discover that only two out of the bunch have been policed-checked. That is not to say I do not trust the others or feel they have something to hide, but as a nursery nurse I saw police-checking as standard practice.
If parents were aware that they can employ someone who has been police-checked, they may feel less need to 'spy' on their nanny, or at least feel more relaxed about leaving their children in the nanny's care. I believe that any nanny worth their salt would not object and would quite happily have a police check done by the Criminal Records Bureau (News, 28 February).
