Childcare is one of the most

Important routes out of poverty for disadvantaged families, according to a report by the Department for Work and Pensions (DfWP). In the report, The United Kingdom's National Action Plan on Social Inclusion 2003-05, the DfWP set out the approach to be taken to contribute to the European Union's long-term goal of a decisive impact on the eradication of poverty across Europe by 2010 - the UK has set itself the target of halving child poverty by 2010 and eradicating it by 2020. The report said encouraging the creation of new childcare places was one of the ways the Government was helping disadvantaged groups to move into jobs.
