The Citywide Parents Group, which has been running for three years, isaiming to recruit more parents through radio advertisements, leafletsand roadshows. The group encourages parents to get involved so they caninfluence the planning and delivery of Sunderland City Council's earlyyears services.
Judi Bevan, a community development officer who works with thechildren's centres and the Citywide Parents Group, said, 'We are lookingfor people with new ideas, so that the project does not stand still, andwe would ideally like a minimum of two representatives from each area.The group enables people to share their views and suggest changes whichwill benefit both the family and the community.'
Parents on the Citywide Parents Group can also access free training togain new skills, in areas ranging from confidence-building to computerskills. Parents who have been involved in the group have gone on tofurther education or training, and some have gained employment.
