CRB and survival

Like a lot of providers I am very concerned about the extremely long wait for Disclosure checks. We have now waited some six months for the Criminal Records Bureau to check a part-time employee. Our day nursery has only been open a year and demand is such that we need to employ more staff. But how do we care satisfactorily for the children and in accordance with Government and Ofsted regulations when a Disclosure check is hanging over our heads?

But how do we care satisfactorily for the children and in accordance with Government and Ofsted regulations when a Disclosure check is hanging over our heads?

When we contact the CRB we are told our application is in the system. But after six months, come on! Unchecked nursery personnel must be supervised at all times, which costs money, so how are nurseries expected to survive? The Government says it will help small businesses, but when will it do something to clear this backlog of Disclosure checks?
