Criminal Records Bureau's higher-level Enhanced and Standard Disclosures

The starting date for having access to the Criminal Records Bureau's higher-level Enhanced and Standard Disclosures has been put back by up to a month. Organisations in England and Wales that currently lack access to criminal record checks, such as nanny agencies, will have to wait until 1 April, although those that can make criminal record checks need wait only a week until 11 March. The CRB has told organisations using existing checking services that they should continue with the arrangements until the Disclosure service begins next Monday. The Enhanced Disclosure is the highest level of check available to anyone working in sole charge of children or vulnerable adults, such as elderly people or those with disabilities. Basic Disclosures will not be available until the summer. For more information contact the CRB information line on 0870 909 0811. Ofsted has registered with the CRB as an 'umbrella body' to carry out criminal records checks on behalf of registered daycarers in England. Last week it sent out information to providers on how they can obtain a check for applicants for childminding, daycare, their employees and associates.
