Dawn Millen

A mother of six has been ordered to complete 200 hours of community service after falsely claiming almost 10,000 in childcare tax credits for pre- and after-school activities for five of her children between November 2000 and November 2002. Dawn Millen, 36, a former self-employed escort agent from Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire, had claimed she was entitled to the tax credits while living in Kent. But when interviewed by officers from the Inland Revenue's Special Compliance Office last September she admitted that the costs she had claimed for never existed. The magistrates said that under normal circumstances Mrs Millen would have faced a 12-month prison sentence but because she had co-operated fully and pleaded guilty, and was the sole custodian of her children, they decided an alternative to a custodial sentence was appropriate in her case.
