Letter of the week wins 30 worth of children's books I thought Nursery World readers may be interested in the following letter that I sent to my GP with regard to the fee he charged for completing my husband's Ofsted health declaration form. The form was submitted in order to register him as a full-time childminder so that we could work together to provide high- quality, safe and secure childcare.

'In the Government's current climate of promoting childcare services, I find it astounding that you charge 60 for writing ten words, putting your surgery's stamp on and signing a form.

'The start-up grant for new childminders is 250. This is supposed to be spent on essential equipment, which will provide a safe and secure environment for young children. Instead, nearly one quarter of it has been poached in the process of completing the health declaration form.
