Don't judge parents

I am disappointed by one of your letters (Nursery World, 12 May). The person 'having worked in a private nursery for more than five years'

The person 'having worked in a private nursery for more than five years'

obviously has no proper concept of all that encompasses pedagogy and childcare.

Judging parents by their actions and almost seeing them as the enemy shows she takes no time to discuss issues with parents or find out about children's lives. The curriculum of the home life is vital to wellbeing and learning.

I am an early years professional and 'mature' parent. Am I then a 'type'? Has childcare slipped into this level of stereotyping and nonsense? Adults are as much individuals as children and parental styles reflect this. I have rarely come across a parent who had a child because it's the thing to do, but I have met many who struggle to cope with the reality of parenthood, relationships, money, illness, bereavement and stress. Does the writer consider these issues before making judgements?
