The charity has launched a survey to find out what barriers providers face employing an Early Years Teacher (EYT) and what deters staff and graduates from taking up the qualification.
It is inviting nursery owners, managers, EYTs and Level 2 and 3 practitioners to take part in the survey in order to give their views on the qualification and talk about their experiences.
Save the Children will use the findings to develop solutions that support children’s development and attainment.
The survey closes on 11 December. The findings will be published in Nursery World in the new year.
Kayte Lawton, head of UK policy, said, ‘We know it is essential that children living in poverty receive high-quality childcare, which supports their development and helps to narrow the attainment gap.
‘This research will help us identify the barriers to Early Years Teachers working in PVI settings so that we can work with settings, staff and Government to further strengthen support for disadvantaged children.’
