Editor's Letter

A topic on communications provides an excellent focus for two of the most important areas within the Foundation Stage curriculum: personal, social and emotional development and communication, language and literacy. What better way to develop children's confidence in their verbal and writing skills than by presenting them with opportunities to 'write' postcards, post letters, tune in to radio, be cub reporters.... We've chosen to look at 'communication systems' in their broadest sense, and so have included non-verbal communications - after all, children's gestures, expressions and noises can 'speak' volumes.
