Enterprise: Agency to boost childminders' business skills

Childminders in a London borough are being invited to join a local enterprise agency to increase their skills and market their business.

Lifeline Projects, a community-based organisation, is working inco-operation with Barking and Dagenham Borough Council to establish theLifeline Childminding Agency. The co-operative venture aims to helpchildminders begin or re-establish their businesses for the benefit ofparents in the area.

Kay Treacy, contract manager for Lifeline Projects (LP), said, 'LP doesall forms of training such as English language, basic skills, retail, IT- anything that helps people in the community to reach their goals. Inour initial registration with people we find they often have problemswith childcare.

'Through this agency we will offer flexible childcare, like emergencychildcare or one-day-a-week care, that is often so hard to find. We willhelp our childminders fill any unfilled places and they will have freeuse of our services, including marketing and advertisingup-skilling.'
