With the growing recognition that we are what we eat, there is a huge responsibility for all nursery and pre-school staff to promote the benefits of a balanced diet.

Eating and socialisation go hand in hand. Research shows that the way in which food is presented to children at an early stage impacts on the way they eat when they are old enough to make their own decisions. For example, junk food can become positively associated with fun occasions such as parties and snacks linked with being with friends and away from home.

Health professionals and early years staff have a significant role to play in advising on nutrition and balancing these kinds of associations.
