This text has made a good transition from the author's PhD to a practical book offering a wide range of material for supporting children in their move into primary school.

There is a blend of reports from research and projects, and plenty of practical suggestions. The book is mainly on preparing children for school, but there are some effective challenges to a perspective that suggests children are the ones who have to make all the adjustments.

The author questions the notion of 'getting children ready to learn', since they are, of course, already learning in the years prior to formal school.
