FOUNDATIONS IN CARING FOR CHILDREN. By Christine Hobart and Jill Frankel (Stanley Thornes, 12.50, 01242 267271).

This is a useful book for anyone studying for the various childcare courses that are now on offer. While there are already other texts doing a similar job, this one is well planned and organised and very comprehensive. It covers all areas of child development such as physical, social, emotional and intellectual development and also offers advice for students on how to set about their studies and apply for jobs.

The text is liberally illustrated with line drawings and photographs and each section sets a task to be done, offers a key point to be made and usefully sets several questions for readers to then test themselves on what they have learnt from it.
