Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has admitted that his party's pledge made last year to bring in 20 hours of free care for all children aged 18 months and over is no longer possible because of the recession.
In a speech on election priorities on Monday Mr Clegg announced plans toput 2.5bn into schools to improve discipline, reduce class sizesand increase teachers' pay, using money freed by taking above-averageincome families out of the tax credit system.
