Free entitlement is focus of Government campaign

Children's minister Beverley Hughes was joined by actress Angela Griffin at Marsham Street Children's Centre in Westminster, London, last week to raise parent awareness of the free early education entitlement.

The Government launched the Altogether Better for Children campaign toencourage take-up of the free 12.5 hours a week for three- andfour-year-olds and publicise that the entitlement is set to increase to15 hours a week in 2010.

'With free early learning, I'm able to give my daughters the best startin life,' said Ms Griffin. 'This free entitlement is for all three- andfour- year-olds and it's important that every parent knows what'savailable so they can make an informed decision.'

Ms Hughes said, 'The DCSF wants all children to reap the positivebenefits that come from attending high-quality early learning, no matterwhat their background. We want parents to understand the positive effectearly learning will have on their children and to raise awareness ofaffordable options on offer to them in their community.'
