Frre fruit in Aberdeen this month

Every primary school child in Aberdeen is receiving a free piece of fruit every day this month in a 48,000 scheme being paid for from a 3.58m windfall awarded to Aberdeen City Council last year by the Scottish Executive. The pre-washed apples and bananas will be delivered to the schools and handed out at breaktime. John Stodter, corporate director for Learning and Leisure, said, 'We hope that offering children free fruit in school will encourage them to develop good eating habits at an early stage in their lives.' The Scottish Executive has set a target for all children over the age of two to have three to four portions of fruit and vegetables per day.
