However, those children who achieve the lowest scores at the end of the Reception year are six times more likely to stay as low achievers at the age of seven than their peers.
An analysis carried out by the DCSF, compared the results of a 10% sample (around 48,000 children) of Foundation Stage Profile assessments in 2005 and Key Stage 1 in 2007 and found that there was a direct link between the two sets of results.
In particular, those children who achieve well in reading, writing and spoken language in the Foundation Stage Profile are very likely to continue to do well in primary school.
