Games on the go

We are all getting out and about a bit more, and whether in a car, a bus or a train, games can keep children of all ages amused. If you plan to spend a long time in transit, provide each child with a special notebook for keeping scores. A word of caution - have someone else fill in the scores for a child who is prone to travel sickness!

TRAVEL BINGO

Make a list of items that you are likely to see on your journey - for example, road signs, farm animals, common buildings such as churches, and road features such as traffic lights. If you know your route well, you can pick specific landmarks, perhaps a hospital or a train station. Using a ruler, divide some A5 sheets of card into six sections. Draw little pictures or write the names of the items in the sections. Make sure each card has a different combination of items. Give each child a card and a set of coloured stickers. When they spot an item from their card they can put a sticker over the picture. The first one to fill their card shouts 'bingo' (but not so loudly that they frighten the driver!)
