Grants totalling more

Grants totalling more than 1.78m have been awarded to 26 community projects in Northern Ireland to help improve health and well-being, as part of the province's 'Investing for Health' initiative. Among the recipients is Playboard's 'Out to Play' initiative, a regional project to increase opportunities for physical play outdoors for children aged seven to 12, and the Ligoniel Family Centre's 'Health and Well-being Initiative for Families', a local resource for health promotion, education and awareness raising in the Ligoniel district of Belfast. Social services minister Bairbre de Bruin said, 'We must address the wide range of social and environmental factors which impact on health and well-being, by involving local communities in identifying the solutions which will work best for the people they represent. This programme has provided us with an excellent opportunity to do this.'
