Gyimah's brief at DfE confirmed

The responsibilities of the childcare and education minister have been confirmed, alongside those of the other ministers in the Department for Education.

Nicky Morgan as secretary of state for education has overall responsibility for the department.

Sam Gyimah, parliamentary under-secretary of state for childcare and education, has a remit that includes:

Under the previous Coalition government, the responsibilities for ‘early years education and the EYFS’ were listed separately as part of the childcare and education minister’s brief. These are not specifically listed under any minister's brief now.

However, a Department for Education spokesperson confirmed to Nursery World that Mr Gyimah’s responsibilities did include the EYFS, because his remit was early education.

Schools minister Nick Gibb’s role includes: teachers and school leaders; curriculum, assessment and qualifications; school accountability; reducing school underperformance and improving schools-to-school support; school admissions, exclusions, behaviour and attendance and alternative provision.
