Happiness wins Childcare Student of the Year

Happiness Brown from Kensington and Chelsea College is the winner of this year's Heinemann and Nursery World Childcare Student of the Year. Happiness picked up her award at a presentation ceremony held at Heinemann's head office in Oxford after an intensive judging session. Now in its seventh year, the Childcare Student of the Year Award recognises excellence in the care and education of children.

The runners-up were Joe Mills from City College, Norwich, studying for aBTec National Diploma in Early Years; Karen Liu from the Deanery C of EHigh School and Sixth Form College, Wigan, studying for a CACHE Diplomain Childcare and Education; and Jennifer Fortune from Merton College,Surrey, studying for a CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education.

Nigerian-born, Happiness arrived in the UK several years ago to work asa nanny. One of 13 children in her family, she finished her formaleducation at 13, but her love of children motivated her to restart herstudies at the age of 28. She has just completed her CACHE Diploma inChildcare and Education.
