When young children are sent home with letter sheets to practise and words of the week to write, parents are usually told to make this fun and not to make it stressful. But virtually all parents are highly concerned that their children should do well at reading and writing. However, most do not have the wider experience of knowing about the different ways that children learn and develop. So, of course, they find it stressful if they think that their children are not achieving as well as others. They are not experts in the teaching of children in the Foundation Stage.
