Hospital staff left in lurch as nursery shuts

A workplace nursery run by a private provider at a hospital in Wales shut down just before Christmas, leaving parents with less than a week's notice to find alternative childcare. The nursery at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan closed on 22 December. It was run by Peter Pan Child Care, based at St Asaph, which rented premises from the Conwy & Denbighshire NHS Trust. A spokesman for the Trust said it did not have any responsibility for the management of the nursery and was 'very disappointed' about the closure.

The spokesman said the Trust had been informed only a few days before the nursery was due to close and staff were informed immediately.

The nursery catered for more than 100 children and 80 per cent of the nursery places were taken up by hospital staff.
