These titles provide an introduction to the complex subject of health and safety in the early years. How to Keep Young Children Safe focuses on various situations, indoors and outdoors. This book is probably most useful to students and those working with them, but qualified staff may also wish to re-visit the basics of health and safety.

How to Avoid Illness and Infection gives facts about infectious diseases, considering factors that influence the spread of infection, and the routes of transmission, and covers policies and permissions required by settings, and the management of chronic diseases. I was pleased to see specific advice provided for those who work in baby rooms, reflecting the additional criteria in the National Standards for those working with younger children.

How to Do a Health and Safety Audit looks at legislation and regulations. The purpose of health and safety audits is explained, alongside guides to conducting them. Tools for various audits (such as first aid and electrical safety) are included, as is a template of a health and safety policy, which can be adapted for individual settings.
