In brief...Children in Scotland and UNICEF launched report

Children in Scotland and UNICEF have launched a report that checks up on whether the Scottish Executive and Parliament are taking children's needs and views into account. Children's Rights Audit 2000-2001: an overview of Scottish Executive and Parliamentary activity in relation to children and young people finds that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is beginning to be taken seriously but there is still a long way to go. Douglas Hamilton, senior policy officer at Children in Scotland and one of the authors, said, 'The next step has to be the establishing of a Commissioner for Children.' Copies of the report are available from Children in Scotland, Princes House, 5 Shandwick Place, Edinburgh EH2 4RG (0131 222 2411).
