In brief...Guidelines on administering medicines in schools published

Guidelines on administering medicines in schools have been published by the Scottish Executive. They apply to all local authority pre-five centres and primary, special and secondary schools. The Administration of Medicines in Schools states that it is essential that NHS and education authorities work together to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place wherever possible when children have to be given medicine at school. It recommends that any member of staff who accepts responsibility for administering medication to a child should receive proper training and guidance. The guidance is on the Scottish Executive website under publications (see above).
